Falling is a given

Meet Jenn, one of our members from STRIDE, Next Step Prosthetics Amputee Support Group.

Falling as an amputee, is almost a given, especially when you are newly out of surgery. Sometimes it's hard to remember that you don't have your limb anymore. Sometimes you lose your balance, and sometimes things just happen. The good thing is, we can learn the correct way to fall not to hurt ourselves, especially our residual limb.

At our February meeting we were lucky enough to have Physical Therapist Carter with us to help explain some things that we can do to strengthen our bodies, as well as how to fall correctly. Demonstrating the falls, were myself, and a few other brave souls on a large mat.

Try to remember to have Grace with yourself, and your new life as an amputee.  Ask questions, keep coming to the Support Group, and soon you will be helping other new amputees just like yourself.
